Commander Tagar

Commander Tagar
Commander Tagar was the military leader of Pangar when SG-1 first visited that planet. At the time, the Pangarans had been using "tretonin" for 30 years, and Tagar was one of the 20% of the population using the drug. Tretonin was a drug, manufactured from goa'uld symbiotes, that acted as a universal health drug, Unfortunately, the drug completely supplanted the immune system, leaving the Pangarans who used it dependent on it for survival. Tagar was suspicious by nature, and did not like the idea of treating with them as openly as his leader, Dollen did. However, the goa'uld queen being bred for symbiotes from which to make tretonin was dying, and they needed a new source of symbiotes. Thus, when SG-1 offered them "safe" gate addresses, they asked instead for addresses to worlds that their research said were inhabited by goa'uld. Tagar was, in fact, quite insistent. Even when SG-1 discovered the true facts and were willing to help, Tagar could not help but be suspicious. When SG-1 found out on their own, they did not react well. Tagar tried to talk Dollen out for revealing all the facts, but Dollen saw no choice. And, SG-1 offered their assistance in finding a way to end Pangaran dependence on the drug. They contacted the Tok'ra for assistance. When it was discovered by Jonas Quinn that the queen being bred was, in fact, Egeria, the long lost progenitor of the Tok'ra, Tagar feared the worst from the Tok'ra, and he was horrified when the Tok'ra Kelmaa gave up her life so that Egeria might take her host, and the Pangarans had lost their source of symbiotes. Fortunately, before Egeria and her new host died, Egeria provided the information necessary to end the Pangaran dependence on the drug. Tagar and the rest of the Dependant Pangarans were saved.
