Just seconds before a building is demolished, a mysterious mute child that has been living alone underground is discovered. When the FBI’s Fringe Division investigates, the boy forms an unspoken connection with Agent Olivia Dunham.

Meanwhile, an especially gruesome serial killer resurfaces and showcases his “artistry” by displaying his work publicly. As the boy gradually assimilates into a new environment, Olivia and the team must race against the clock to prevent the mad man from further macabre. Fringe case file # 115-4709

Glyph code spells--WALTER

Goofs--When Olivia calls Broyles to ask him to move the child, the shot of Broyles answering the phone is a recycled shot from the episode "Safe". In addition, the shot is flipped, as can be seen by the fact that Broyles' watch is on his right wrist rather than his left.

  • Olivia stops The Artist at a checkpoint, and he touches his face with his hand. When the shot cuts to Olivia, his hand disappears; when the shot cuts back to The Artist, his hand reappears.
  • This is when Olivia goes to visit the boy at the hospital the second time. She and the guy from Department of Social Services go outside to talk. One of the shots is flipped. Note Olivia's notepad and the heart monitor by his bed.
  • Olivia, Broyles, Peter and Walter are visiting the boy for the first time at the hospital. A small bit of Olivia's hair is in front of her left shoulder. Cut to the immediate next shot from the patient's room and all of her hair is behind of shoulder.

Fringe Event: Empath John Doe child found in sealed room

Trivia--Allston, Peter's childhood home in the early 1990's, is mentioned again. This time, it's the location of a copy store used by the Artist to send his fax. (617-555-0109 Boston Metro)

  • John Noble recalls this episode trying to get the boy to wear the contraption of a helmet while dancing and recalls Peter & Olivia off camera laughing so hard that they renamed the episode 'Having Sex With a Tall Girl.'

Observer Sighting--The Observer walks along a snowy sidewalk, as The Child is driven away in the opposite direction.
