Following Caleb's attack, Xander is now blind in one eye. Buffy takes all the guilt and again encounters Caleb at the abandoned school. Faith presses her fun-loving nature on the potentials and takes them all to the Bronze, which leads to an argument between Faith and Buffy, culminating in forcing the potentials to choose between their two leaders, but because of Buffy's recent decisions and behavior, they all side with Faith.

Meanwhile, Spike and Andrew look into an abandoned mission and discover a plaque which reads: 'It's not for thee, It is only for her to wield'.

Monster of the Week:

There's no monster of the week in this episode, it deals mainly with the lack of faith in Buffy's leadership and Caleb's origins.

  • Sunnydale: Like rats from a sinking ship, nearly everyone who lives in Sunnydale is attempting to escape due to the bad mojo around, including Clem.
  • Potentials: After the events that happened in the vineyard, the potentials tell Buffy that she's being reckless and hold a vote to install Faith as their new leader.
  • Back to the Beginning: Almost everything Anya said in her speech about Buffy's superiority is what Buffy said to Giles in the first episode of the series, Welcome to the Hellmouth.

  1. Faith: Faith's jailbreak finally catches up with her when she is apprehended by some overzealous police officers.
  2. Buffy: The potentials and the rest of the gang finally give a vote of no confidence in Buffy. The entire group seems to be against her, especially when she says that they need to go back into the vineyard. She leaves the house and the group.

Buffy Summers looks like your typical high school cheerleader type, with nothing to worry about but grades and boys. Change that to vampires and demons and you'll be right. For Buffy is the "chosen one," the latest in a long line of Slayers whose destiny it is to fight evil.
