stardate--41235.25--The Enterprise travels to the planet Ligon, the only source of a vaccine needed to fight a dreaded plaque; but the ruler of Ligon decides that he wants Tasha in return.

original airdate--October 12,1987                         rating--9.5 millions

music--Theme music by Alexander Courage and Jerry Goldsmith

  1.  "Gynopedie No. 1" composed by Erik Satie.

Goof--Portal swings his staff while approaching Riker showing off his speed and dexterity. It's obvious that the video is at double speed for this effect.

  • Data's display bar shows both Klingon and Federation information, upside-down.
  • When Doctor Crusher says that they "...won't have to worry past 70 below...", Picard replies that "It feels like that now." One would expect that if it feels that cold, their breath would be visible.

Trivia--First Star Trek appearance of Armin Shimerman as the Ferengi officer Letek (one of the three Ferengi officers on the surface). Shimerman would later go on to play the Ferengi bartender Quark on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

  • Data states that they don't know what the Ferengi look like but that they can be sure they don't look like Uncle Sam. In some of the original concept art, the Ferengi in fact looked like Uncle Sam.
  • The whip-like weapons used by the Ferengi are never shown again in any other episode or series of Star Trek.

[Voice of Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean Luc Picard]

"Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. It's continuing voyages to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before!"
