Commanding the newly-commissioned Enterprise-E, Captain Jean-Luc Picard defies orders and assists in a vicious battle between Federation forces and a Borg cube. Nearing defeat, the Borg launch an escape pod towards Earth. Travelling back in time, the Borg attempt to destroy the future Federation by preventing Zephram Cochrane developing his revolutionary warp-drive technology and taking his maiden voyage. The voyage that ultimately resulted in humankind's first contact with an alien race.
