Stardate: unknown--The Voyager crew tries to help the Nezu, whose colony planet is being bombarded with asteroids by the Etanian Order.

Meanwhile Neelix and Tuvok must work together to get off the surface using a magnetic lift on an orbital tether to get information about the asteroid bombardment to the Voyager.

original airdate--February 26,1997       rating--4.6 million

music--theme by Jerry Goldsmith

Goofs: Neelix accelerates the Maglev vessel to 47 kilometers per hour, starting from the planet's surface. Within a couple of minutes, Tuvok states that they are 30 kilometers above the surface. It would take almost 40 minutes to get that high at 47 kph.

  • Tuvok, able to fly almost any alien vehicle, is suddenly unable to control a simple Maglev carriage. A carriage that literally just travels vertically. Very illogical.
  • The roof hatch of the mag-lev carriage is opened twice in the upper atmosphere. All air should be blown out, but the characters are not pushed out of the vessel and continue to breathe without difficulty. However, when the main hatch opens a little later (while the carriage is still at the same position), the blow-out effect becomes moderately apparent. But despite being low on oxygen reserves from the beginning, nobody seems to suffer from oxygen deprivation even then.

Trivia: 47-reference: the speed of the carriage lift is 47kph.

  • The scene where Neelix reveals to Tuvok that his knowledge of mag-lev carriages was based on his experience with authentic 1/10-scale models is reminiscent of the scene in The Flight of the Phoenix, where Dorfmann reveals that his airplane construct was based on the design of model airplanes.

"Unhappy with a new treaty, Federation colonists along the Cardassian border have banded together. Calling themselves 'The Maquis' they continue to fight the Cardassians. Some consider them heroes, but to the governments of the Federation and Cardassia, they are outlaws."
