Stardate: 51929.3--The Voyager encounters a Mutara-class nebula filled with deadly subnucleonic radiation that extends for 110 light-years, which would take over a month to fly through, or a year to go around it.

Meanwhile, to get through the nebula, the whole Voyager crew must be put in stasis, leaving only the Emergency Medical Hologram and Seven of Nine to run the ship.

Goofs: In space there is no air friction against an object. Objects in motion in space tend to stay in motion. Even if the ship lost its propulsion near the end, it would continue on course for quite some time.

  • When the Doctor goes offline in Engineering, his mobile emitter disappears with him. In previous episodes, whenever the Doctor goes offline with the mobile emitter, the emitter is seen falling to the ground.
  • Near the end, Seven cuts life support to power the engines to get the ship out of the nebula in the next eleven minutes, then she passes out seconds later from lack of oxygen. There is more than enough oxygen in a large room like she was in to breath for much more than eleven minutes.

Trivia: After Tom Paris is placed back in stasis after removing himself, the Doctor comments to Seven of Nine, who had taken a remark of his literally, that "If you had even the slightest sense of humor, you'd realize I was making a small joke." She replies with, "Very small." This is reminiscent of a scene between Chekov and Spock in the Original Series episode "Star Trek" (1966) The Trouble with Tribbles (#2.15).

  • The basic premise of this installment (the entire crew put into hibernation in order to safely survive a dangerous region of space, while a single immune crew member pilots the ship) would be used again in "Enterprise" (2001) Doctor's Orders (#3.16).

"Unhappy with a new treaty, Federation colonists along the Cardassian border have banded together. Calling themselves 'The Maquis' they continue to fight the Cardassians. Some consider them heroes, but to the governments of the Federation and Cardassia, they are outlaws".
