200 years in the future, Earth has become polluted to the point where most people live in orbitting Stations. But life in these sterile environments have lead to a condition known as the Syndrome. Devon Adair, an extremely wealthy and influential young woman, believes that unless a natural environment is found, the human race - and her Syndrome-inflicted son Ulysses - will die out.
Gathering 250 Syndrome-afflicted families, Devon determines to set up a colony at New Pacifica on Planet G889, an unexplored Earth-like planet about 22 light years away. But a branch of the government known as The Council has other plans for G889. Unable to stop Devon from leaving the Stations, they sabotage the advance ship, and the team crash lands on the opposite side of the planet to where their supplies have been delivered. Among the survivors who must trek across this mysterious planet are Devon and her son Ulysses; Ulysses's tutor, a cyborg named Yale; engineer John Danziger and his almost-teenage daughter True; pilot Alonzo Solace; doctor Julia Heller; and Earth government representative Morgan Martin and his wife Bess.
Time is of the essence. In two years the colony ship will arrive expecting a fully functioning community. Little do Devon and her crew know the dangers that await them...
